Chaupai Sahib

Chaupai Sahib, also called Benti Chaupai, is a hymn written by Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the tenth Sikh Guru. It plays an important role in Sikh prayer and devotion, and it is featured in the Dasam Granth, a text credited to Guru Gobind Singh Ji. The name “Chaupai” refers to a quatrain (a four-line stanza), while “Sahib” means respect and regard. Thus, it is a hymn made up of multiple quatrains, each of which expresses praise, supplication, and contemplation of Divine characteristics. This path is widely regarded for its devotional content, spiritual depth, and poetic beauty. It is a composition that encourages bravery, strength, and faith in the face of adversity. Many Sikhs chant Chaupai Sahib every day as part of their Nitnem prayers, particularly in the evening prayer (Rehras Sahib), although it is also repeated on other occasions for spiritual protection and guidance. The bani begins with an appeal to the Almighty and then goes on to dwell on God’s traits and virtues, all while praying for His blessings and grace. Its lines are infused with humility, appreciation, and steadfast faith in the Divine Will. This Bani continues to provide peace, strength, and spiritual upliftment to Sikhs all over the world, expressing the essence of Sikh philosophy and Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s teachings.
